Priority #1= Your Health!

After the last few evenings that I have spent coaching I was spurned to write. In 2 short weeks I’ve talked to members that have;

Lost 20 pounds in 4 months. Lost 11 pounds in 3 weeks. Had another clear scan for tumors, and now “graduated” scans every 12 months. Wished they had started CrossFit sooner instead of trying something first in order to get in better shape prior to trying CrossFit. Went back to a bootcamp class with her friend and crushed it. Had the doctor take him off of his blood pressure medications. Lost 4 inches around their waist in less than 60 days. For the first time ever, run 400 meters without stopping. Was able to run 1 mile without stopping. Had her doctor take her off her blood thinners. Been told by surgeon that their recover from surgery was great “for their age” due to their strength. A greater relationship with their significant other now that they both take their health more seriously. Been able to walk up the stairs without getting winded. Been able to plant all her plants in the Spring without her “usual aches and pains.” Been able to lift her child without pain. Added 30 yards to their drive on the golf course. Increased velocity on their tennis serve. Had an easier time with grappling in jui-jitsu since starting CrossFit. Overcome a fear of heights to climb a rope for the first time in their life. Had their doctor no longer prescribe anti-depressants after a year of being at CrossFit Steele Creek. Been able run faster half marathon since starting CrossFit, while training with less running.

I could write a book about the physical, psychological and sociological improvements of hundreds of people that I’ve seen through training at CrossFit Steele Creek and elsewhere in the last 5 years. I like to tell new people that “whether they think they are the best athlete, or the most out of shape person we’ve ever seen; they are wrong.”

Which leads me to this simple thought…You cannot put a price tag on your health. If you prefer to spend all your money on “things” and your time on facebook, Instagram and playing Playstation; you’ve only got yourself to blame.  Beyond that, you need to understand that making your health a priority is the most important thing for your family too. Often parents blame their kids (ie. Chauferring them around to friends and sports) as a reason they “don’t have time to exercise”. My only question to mom and dad is, “who’s to blame when you’re too tired to chase your children, too weak to pick them up, and too sick to enjoy your time with them?”

I don’t care if it’s CrossFit, or in your basement…It’s never too late to make changes. Exercise and eating well have way too many benefits to miss out on. Don’t let a failing, weak, sick body dictate what you can, and cannot do. Take control of your life and live it on your terms.

Get. Started. Now.
